Prayer Request from the Church Office

Dear Friends,

Since we do not have an official “church prayer chain” I am sending a prayer request to those of you whom I have email addresses for. And I thank you ahead of time for your prayers.

Our request is from Patti Wolfe and it is for Amy Cummingham – she is 33 years old and has an 18 month old baby. Amy had a severe allergic reaction to a medication and has developed “Stevens Johnson Syndrom”. She has a severe rash which has covered 80 to 90% of her body and is very painful. This is a serious situation and Amy really needs our prayers.

God Bless You,
Linda [Mayes]

for those interested...

in news reports regarding the Roy Jacobs trial, i googled it and found an article (below)
one way or the other, we can pray for him and those involved.

After delays, jury convicts ex-coach in one traffic death, exonerates him in second

By Linda Metz, Staff writer

lmetz@observer-reporter.com

Friday was unusual from start to finish in the trial for Roy M. Jacobs II, former first-base coach for the Washington Wild Things, charged in connection with a 2005 crash that killed two people.

By day's end, Jacobs had been found guilty of a felony in the death of one of the men, which carries a substantial prison term.

A missing juror delayed the start of the second day of deliberations. The male juror, who had sat through the trial and had deliberated for nearly seven hours Thursday before being allowed to go home for the night, failed to appear Friday at the Washington County Courthouse.

Deliberations were put on hold for two hours as court officials attempted to contact the juror. The juror eventually was reached but said he was too ill to continue.

Subsequently, Judge Janet Moschetta Bell was left to decide whether deliberations would continue with only 11 jurors. Under Pennsylvania law, a jury with as few as six members may be permitted to continue to deliberate on a case as long as both the prosecution and defense agree to the stipulation.

Both Assistant District Attorney Michael Lucas and Jacobs' attorney Michael DeRiso had no opposition.

At 11:30 a.m., the jurors continued their deliberations into whether Jacobs, 29, of Louisville, Ohio, was guilty of being intoxicated while driving a vehicle that crashed into another vehicle on Interstate 70 in Canton Township on Dec. 2, 2005. The crash resulted in the death of Robert Bernardini, who was in the vehicle with Jacobs, and another motorist, Richard Morris, 51, of Canonsburg.

Jacobs and Bernardini, who served as a host for the baseball team, had attended a Christmas party at the Rhythm House in Bridgeville and then went to Auggie's Roadhouse in North Strabane Township. Jacobs had stayed with Bernardini from May to September 2005.

Jacobs was arrested nearly two years after the crash and charged with two counts each of driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle while DUI and homicide by vehicle. Police said his blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.

At 2:30 p.m., it was announced that the jury had reached a verdict. But the verdict was not read until an hour and a half later because Jacobs, who had been staying at a local motel during the trial, was stuck on Chestnut Street because of an accident that occurred during heavy snowfall.

Finally, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to get Jacobs and return him to the courthouse. Once there, Jacobs was rushed to the second-floor courtroom, with the jury soon being ushered in to announce its decision.

As complicated as the day's events had been, so was the verdict from the jury, which found Jacobs guilty of DUI with a BAC in the range of 0.1 percent to 0.159 percent, and guilty of homicide by vehicle in regard to Morris' death. Jacobs was found not guilty of another DUI count, the two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI and homicide by vehicle relating to Bernardini.

"I don't understand the verdict; I'm as perplexed as you are," said DeRiso following the reading of the verdict. "You don't see a verdict like this too often."

He added, "Clearly, the jury was working on this, but I'm unclear how they came to this conclusion."

After meeting with some of the jurors, Lucas said the panel "concluded he was driving, he was drinking, and he caused the death of Mr. Morris." But, Lucas explained, they found him not guilty in regard to Bernardini because Bernardini, who was also drinking, got into the vehicle with Jacobs at the wheel.

"It was a very tough case," Lucas said. "And I commend the jury for their hard work."

Bernardini's children, Mindi and Justin, said they were pleased with the verdict because it finally cleared their father's name and proved he wasn't driving the vehicle.

"I have nothing against Roy, and he knows that," said Justin Bernardini. "But, it's time to man up and go to jail."

Deputies took Jacobs from the courthouse to the county jail, as ordered by Moschetta Bell, who also found Jacobs guilty of four summary charges that did not come before the jury.

Sentencing will be held within 90 days following the completion of a presentence investigation report.

The charge of homicide by vehicle carries a maximum sentence of 3 1/2 to 7 years. The homicide by vehicle while DUI charge, of which Jacobs was not convicted, carries a mandatory sentence of 3 to 6 years in prison.

Prayer Request

We got news last nite that our Brother in Law Saw (Tim's sister Joy's husband) is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. He had been having problems since this spring but the VA hospital just kept telling him it was his medication and tweaked with it off and on and sent him on his merry way. Thankfully (sounds morbid but...) he was having shortness of breath and was taken to Mercy and admitted. Being that it was an "emergency" he is able to stay there for care and they finally came to a diagnosis. This is the latest update from Joy:
"Sam is hanging in there. We found out yesterday that he has congestive heart failure. This morn. found his heart is only working at 10% capacity and he has 3 arteries that are blocked. Also they think he has a problem with his gallbladder.I'm really upset that the VA has let this go since March. Thanks for your prayers. It helps as you well know!"
So if you could all keep him in your prayers... we are hoping that he is finally able to get the treatment he needs.

Dave Ramsey web site info

From Scott's email:
-------------------------------
Everyone with a computer has access to Daveramsey.com.
Our FPU class# is 134246. This special number allows our class members access to the MRC (Member Resource Center). The first time you login you will need to pick out a login user name and password. Those of you in the class who do not have a workbook can print any form or letter that is in the worbook from this site. I have only been in the site one time myself but it looks to have a lot of content and links to financial sites. You should check it out weekly as I believe they have the highlights of each lesson. (remember we are splitting the sessions in two so Dave may be a little ahead of us!) The Dave Ramsey site is available at any time, but the MRC is available to us only about 15 weeks...till sometime in mid-January. Please take the time to be pro-active and check out the site every week or so. Remember we must break old habits to gain control over our money. Knowledge is 20 percent of the Dave Ramsey system. Eighty per cent of the system is changing your behavior with your money.

Like I said before I think we will all learn more if we become pro-active and interact with the Dave Ramsey site and actually try some of what Dave says. Soooo, I would like it if every family could prepare a budget using Dave's forms (in workbook or on the site). Also I think each family should write down a goal to either pay off a debt or save some money for some purchase or puchases (Christmas fund??..). I will never ask to see your budgets or ask how much debt you are in or how much is in your savings account. My only concern is that we all try Dave's ideas and attempt to alter our financial behaviors in a positive way. So think about it, discuss it at home and let's do it! I may ask the class from time to time how you are doing. Dave recommends sharing little victories if you have one (paid off a debt, or your emergency fund is now complete...).
-----------------------------------------

Now back to Kurt
Thanks all for your participation so far in the Dave Ramsey series. Please take a couple minutes to go to the website and look around if you can. Please try to have your quick budget ready to go for Sunday as I think we'll be referencing those sheets.

See you Sunday!

Sunday September 14th

Today we started into the Financial Peace University study with the Koinonia class. We will be meeting in our classroom and doing a short pray then we will head over to the Koinonia classroom. Please post any pray requests or praises on the blog so that we can pray for them during the week.

Prayer Request

If you could keep my brother and his family in your prayers this week... They had a small house fire on Monday morning and are now dealing with teh aftermath. The lost electric like many people, had a candle burning which was knocked over and caught their master bathroom on fire. The bathroom is a complete loss and master bedroom has a lot of smoke/ water damage. The rest of the house has extensive smoke damage as well... but thankfully they are all ok and were able to get right out as soon as the alarm went off. So... they are living at a motel for now... insurance adjuster can't come for 1.5 weeks b/c of other storm damage assessments so they are in limbo. I am not sure what their next step is right now but if you could just keep it all in your prayers.

Mission Auction Items

Today we discussed what our class wanted to do for the Mission Auction in October.

We decided on a tailgate basket and a bake good basket.

The tailgate basket is pretty self explanatory, we will fill it with pop, chips an Salsa, etc.

The Bake good basket, we were tossing around the idea of cookies in a jar, some baked goods. This was just a start. If you have any other suggestions bring them with you our better yet post them here.

Don't forget next week we will start the Financial Series. Meet in our regular room for prayer and quick announcements and then we will move over with the other class.

See you next Sunday.

Hi

I just got word last night that Steve Kandel's mother passed away yesterday. I do not know if she has been ill , but do know that she went into the hospital Monday because she was having a hard time breathing.

I do not know when services or calling hours are. I heard that information will be in the paper tomorrow.

I will go ahead and send a card from our class tonight. Please keep them in your prayers. His mother was really good to Steve and Melissa and the grand kids. I know that Courtney is having a hard time with it.
Thanks--Lynne

Prayer Request from Church Office

Dear Friends,

Just want to ask for your prayers for Evelyn Bardash. She fell yesterday and had to have 29 stitches. (Don’t know where the stitches are – God does)

Thank you and God Bless you!

Linda

UPDATE

Friends,
Not God, (He knows though) but the stitches are in her forehead, along with a couple of black eyes and major bruises, but no severe pain.
Evelyn doesn't seem to have memory of the trauma.
Denise mentioned that prayers for steadiness and God's help from another fall would be much appreciated.
In Christ,
Pastor Larry

The program is called Financial Peace University (http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/) and sounds like a "Money Matters" type of program - Christian based, financially focused. We'll figure out how to pay for it when we get some more information on it. I'll also try to talk to Rev. Larry about sponsoring him in his bike trip from DC to Pittsburgh.
